Weeks of emotional roller-coaster rides for The New Day and WWE Universe reached culmination after last night’s Smackdown. The fan-favorite Kofi Kingston has finally received the ticket to Wrestlemania 35 as he is now heading into the WWE Championship match on April 7th. This is the first time ever that WWE’s Dreadlocked Dynamo will compete in a solo contest for the most coveted prize in the sports entertainment.
The night started on a sour note for Kofi Kingston alongside The New Day faction who was looking to quite the company. After what Vince McMahon has been doing to them, it makes sense that they were willing to walk away from the scene. Even Daniel Bryan arrived to the scene to instigate them further until Mr. McMahon came up with a different plan.
He announced another Gauntlet match on Smackdown for the third time within a timespan of just seven weeks. This time around, The New Day would have to defeat all the tag team opponents in order to make way for Kofi Kingston into the Wrestlemania match card. So Big E and Xavier Woods were up for the unthinkable task in hand put in front of them.
The first two victims for The New Day were Gallows-Anderson and Rusev-Shinsuke Nakamura. Both were eliminated by Midnight Hours whereas The Bar fell short to a roll-up. The Usos decided to forfeit the contest that led to the final match where Daniel Bryan and Rowan challenged the New Day. Rowan got himself counted out after Big E and Woods buried him under the announce table to win the Gauntlet.
Following this win, McMahon had to consider Kofi Kingston as the new contender for Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship. Smackdown ended on a happy note as WWE.com further confirmed the much-anticipated title match for Wrestlemania 35,
“For the love of their New Day cohort Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods reigned supreme in a Tag Team Gauntlet Match, conquering the likes of Gallows & Anderson, Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura, The Bar, The Usos and eventually “The New” Daniel Bryan & Rowan to finally earn The Dreadlocked Dynamo his much-deserved WWE Championship Match against Bryan at WrestleMania.”
